WDA is a charitable, educational, athletic, and social organization that promotes community collaboration through activities, events, and small businesses. Our initiatives aim to foster economic growth and create a positive environment in the Chicago Woodlawn Community and its surrounding neighborhoods, including events like the Woodlawn Food Truck Fest, which celebrate local culture.
Our Mission
To see Woodlawn—and communities like it—united in purpose, where residents, businesses, and organizations work together across differences to build thriving, equitable, and connected neighborhoods. We are particularly focused on mental health awareness and supporting youth programs to empower the next generation.
The Woodlawn Food Truck Fest, which started in 2017, is a shining example of community collaboration among neighbors in the Woodlawn area, organized alongside the Soulful Book Fair. This event was designed to foster a sense of unity within the Woodlawn community by allowing families and friends to savor delicious mobile cuisines at affordable prices, all while promoting literacy through engaging works from great authors and providing live entertainment. Additionally, the fest supports economic growth and includes initiatives focused on mental health awareness and youth programs, further enhancing the community spirit.
In an effort to expand and foster community collaboration, Woodlawn Diversity In Action was created in 2019 to provide more opportunities for the kids and small businesses of the community. We proudly sponsor events like the Woodlawn Food Truck Fest, the Woodlawn5KDash, and Woodlawn’s Got Talent.
Our initiatives have evolved to bring even more summertime fun events, such as Black Wall Street, while remaining dedicated to economic growth and spreading mental health awareness alongside violence prevention among our youth—two critical topics for the health of the community.
